Orion is a true wooly miniature donkey jack. He has long hair over 9 inches long, masses of it and he has not shed this summer at 16 months old. He has the longest, thickest hair we have seen, the result of generations of selection for long hair to get this quality. With good conformation and a gentle temperament, this jack will take our woolly breeding program forward.

This jack is probably the best wooly jack we have raised on our farm. Great temperament, good conformation, compact size, and lots of long hair. His dam was one of our favorite wooly jennets, but tragically died. His sire, Little Red Hairy, is a donkey who is very willing to go anywhere, loves attention. Tip Top is just as his name, just the best. Last year, we used him to pasture breed several jennets, and it looks like he got most of them in foal. His first foals are arriving this April and May. We’re excited to see what we get. Any color combination is possible, as he carries red and black genetics, and beautiful spots.

Lil Dude is one nice chunky jack. He is short coupled, and has stocky build. He has nice proportions, rich chocolate color, great temperament, and he is wooly. His sire’s side throws the wooly hair with the thick coat, and his dam has very long locks. He tends to look more like his sire, but his foals all had foals coats like his dam. He sired 3 foals born in 2017, and all were wooly. These pictures show him a full 4 years old.

We love our herd sire jacks, and Rembrandt was phenomenal to work with, and fabulous foals. We aren’t breeding so much anymore, so we have gelded him, and he is ready to go to his next home. This is a very mannerly donkey, always has been easy to work with, halter, lead, farrier. He has a mellow temperament. These pictures were taken June 25, and he has not quite finished shedding. When he has shed completely, he is shiny black, you can barely see his cross, and he has beautiful white markings.

Dam:  MGF Venus Nasturtium 91, 33" Brown/Slate White Spotted
Grand Sire:  CP's Peanut, 32.5" Brown & White Spotted
Grand Dam: MGF Venus Naxos 17

Little Pink Harry is one of the early woolly Herd Sires used at Jerry McRoberts ranch, the first breeder who selected for this trait. The long haired genetics are complex, and we wanted this fine jack because he will bring into our wooly breeding program some very nice things. At twelve years old, we have seen a lot of his foals, and we know that he gives them nice round hips, nice chests, and good wooly traits. We are breeding with three of his daughters in our herd, Apple Blossom, Little Pink Lace, and Little Pink Harriet. They are small and well conformed jennets with great temperaments. They get very thick coats, and are truly shaggy all the time. Apple Blossom is a red frosted spot, and Pink Lace is a solid red. We are also breeding with his wooly sorrel son, Little Red Hairy, and have his first foals on the ground this spring (2012). Little Pink Harry, although not heavily wooly at this stage of his life, still has feathers on his legs (long lower leg hair), a mane that hangs down, and an overall shaggy look. He is a three color spotted donkey, red gray and white, so is versatile as a color breeder. He goes red and white in the summer. He has a nice round hip, wide chest, and overall really nice conformation in a small size. Top it off with great friendly, willing temperament. We were very happy to get this proven jack, to breed to our wooly jennets.

Little Red Hairy is an outstanding, go anywhere with you, mini donkey gelding. He was a great herd sire for us for several years, and we have retained some of his sons and daughters for our future breeding program. This little guy has a great temperament, loves to go for walks, loves attention. We gelded him because we think he will make a great Ambassador for the Breed. If you are looking for a donkey that would enjoy going places with you, perhaps to shows or for therapy, you should give this donkey a good look. He doesn’t have to travel with you, he will be more than happy to greet you at the gate whenever you go into the pasture.

We have several wooly miniature donkey jennets, and went looking for a wooly jack to breed them to. This fellow caught our eye in the field. He had a familiar look, and when we realized he was half brother to our beautiful Apple Blossom, we just knew he would work out for us. Musketeer trained very quickly, and has a mellow temperament, which is one of our breeding priorities. He is very stocky, with spots that work well with his long hair. We will breed him to our Harry Houdini daughters, along with a few of our miniature donkey jennets that seem to carry some of the long haired traits.

The Elms Red Fission is a magnificent, dark red Herd Sire here at Elms Farm. His pedigree is concentrated with great red genetics and well conformed donkeys.  It is no accident that this jack has the color, conformation, and temperament he has. As a two year old jack he was pastured with jennets with foals on the side, and got every one of his jennets in foal. He has sired show worthy foals with willing temperaments, in the rich dark red color he himself wears. He has been known as Fizzy here on the farm, because of his sunny personality. Very mannerly, we are delighted with this dark red breeding jack.

This is a new Herd Sire on the farm. We liked this jack right from the beginning.  Built like a classic miniature donkey jack, with good bone and great overall balance. Alert style, and gentle, willing disposition. Beautiful markings as well, with his long bold cross. Sometimes we just keep quiet about the really good ones, and we just tucked Red Hot away in our herd without posting him on our web page. Last year he was put with several jennets, and we are excited about his foals which will start arriving in the spring 2012. This picture was taken in April 2011.

This spring we bought this beautiful spotted jack, the grandson of one of our brood jennets, Heather. He measured just under 31" in May, and has a great build. He has a wide chest, round hip, short back, nice top line, good legs, perfect teeth, and a pretty head. He carries himself with a heads up alert expression, and has a friendly personality. Geronimo has a 50/50 spot pattern, with the large, bold spots we like. He has symmetrical cheek patches, and full mascara both eyes. He has a dark spot on the bridge of his nose. The color comes well up his legs, and from behind he looks like he is wearing white shorts, with gaithers. He has a flaxen tipped long tail, which catches the light. The jennets have liked him from the very first day, and he already has some comfirmed in foal. We are excited about this jack, and think he will give us some gorgeous bold spotted foals. Look for his first foals in 2009!

Pepperazzi is our latest black miniature donkey Herd Sire. Sire and Dam were both in the Elms Farm breeding program for many years. He was bred to be a black outcross jack, not related to the Motown/Black Russian bloodline. We like his small size, short coupled body, and smooth build. He has a very willing temperament, very easy to halter and lead.

Pepperazzi was an ineffective breeding jack and only sired one foal, a very nice black jennet. If jacks are not being used to breed, they should be gelded. We gelded Pepperazzi. He is now a very mannerly, friendly, and easy to work with donkey, with a future life free of the stress of hormones.

Fusion's sire is our herd sire, Santana, who is by Red Rock and out of Red Kelly. Fusion's dam is Aphrodite, sired by Cherries Jubilee, and out of a full sister to our herd sire, Fiftyfire. 758's Di Di is a 33 inch, gorgeous dark red sorrel jack with a roan muzzle. His name means "red" in another language, and he is truly a dark red.  DI DI's deep sorrel color is outstanding, remaining a beautiful red even in his late winter coat. He has excellent conformation, perfect teeth, and a drafty build, and a wonderful disposition. A well proven herd sire, he is known for improving the conformation of the jennets he breeds. He produces beautiful foals of outstanding conformation, with rich color and great dispositions.
