The miniature donkey brood jennets listed below are a sample of the quality female donkeys in the Elms Farm donkey breeding program. Our breeding female donkeys have been carefully selected for their conformation, pedigree, bloodline, temperament, color, genetic diversity, and compatibility with our herd sires. We travel throughout North America to personally inspect prospective jennets to ensure they meet our criteria before including them in our breeding program. Using this approach and carefully planning each herd sire - jennet mating, we believe we can produce top quality miniature donkeys and further improve the miniature donkey breed.

Grand Dam:  MGF Venus Czarina, 32" Black

      Grand Dam:
MGF Venus Gingersnap, 32" Red

She's a doll, so nice to work with. Good bone on her, and an interesting spot pattern, with that much darker spot over her croup. We were so hoping for a spot, to see what she would throw. Got a very nice dark brown jennet instead, The Elms Baby Doll, August 2014. Doing a great job as a mother, and the foal is a delight.

      Grand Dam:
LCR Philamena, 32" Dark Brown

Arwen is a gorgeous spotted jennet. One of several Doc Shivago daughters, we appreciate her good build, balance, and great temperament. She grows a very long winter coat, but sheds pretty normally. All the better to enjoy her spotted pattern, which includes some roan in the solid areas. Stocky and square, with an extra long tail tipped in white. Arwen foaled her first foal, a dark brown and white spotted jack, in 2014, and we are calling him Legolas for now. Looks like he will be a wooly.

Dam:  Arcadian Michaela, Brown Gray White Spotted
Grand Sire:  Dewey Meadows Valintino, 32 3/4" Dark Brown & White Spotted
      Grand Dam:
Arcadian Molly, 32 1/4" Gray-dun

The only way to describe this jennet is Absolutely Precious! Masses of long hair, a gentle temperament, and so sweet. We are a little surprised she ended up as small as she is, but Absolutely Precious is put together properly. She is black and white, but her hair looks a bit bleached in these pictures taken July 31, 2014, as it is last year's hair that she has not shed. This jennet is fabulous for the long haired trait. She had her first foal, a fine dark brown jack,  in July 2014, sired by GJR Little Red Hairy. Doing a fine job as a mother, and we think the foal will be as wooly as she is.

      Grand Dam:
LCR Philamena, 32" Dark Brown

Foundation Jennet of Excellence, from the McRoberts herd. A Fireman daughter, and a granddaughter of the famous Valintino 50th. I have seen many of her foals, as adults, by at least 7 different sires, and every one has been a donkey you would be proud to have in your herd. Several of her descendants are in our breeding herd. At age 19, with her up-headed stance, and her showy, beautiful stride, she still catches the eyes of visitors to our farm, who pick her out in the large jennet group to comment on. Her foals have been short haired and wooly, in colors from dark red, dark brown, true black, black and white spotted, fully frosted spotted, and russet. It is rare anymore to find a donkey that goes back in 4 generations to the imports (B Bel Tiempo 38 and M Marianna 27 are in her pedigree). Pon Farr is an easy breeder, foals easily. She is a great mother, and stays in great body condition on just pasture while nursing her foals. She had never been properly handled when we got her, but she learned to trust us quickly. She halters and leads well, lets you handle her hooves, and has a great personality.

Grand Sire:  MGF Peabody, 33" Gray & White Spotted
      Grand Dam:
MGF Venus Lorelei

Bold Promises is a true black and white spotted jennet. Very flashy! She is registered wooly, and certainly carries the traits, but they aren't as strong as when she was two years old. She arrived here already pregnant by an unknown MGF jack, and had a gorgeous bold spotted jennet in spring 2013, The Elms As Promised. We bred her back to our herd sire, Little Pink Harry, and she had another gorgeous, and likely wooly, jennet in 2014, called The Elms Promise Me. A gorgeous jennet, great temperament, and a delight to have.

Grand Dam:   Rearview's Blossom, 34" Red

Spiced Wine puts me in a good mood every time I look at her. Elegant, classical miniature donkey style. Up-headed and showy, she is a beautiful jenny. She had a show quality jennet in 2012, and repeated that in 2013, both sired by The Elms Red Hot Wind. Her dam, Synnamon, has had 11 foals for us, all with the quality we look for in a miniature donkey. Black Knight, her sire, has given us a lot of equally beautiful foals. We expect to work with Spice Wine for a long time with the quality that she is and produces.

Mary Jane is a great little brood jenny. Small but mighty, she has a wide chest, straight legs, good overall build, and is a heavy milk producer. Mary Jane has a super sweet, gentle personality. Nice spotted pattern, accentuated by her long hair. She is an outcross wooly blood-line.      Grand Sire:  MGF Peabody, 33" Gray & White Spotted
Grand Dam:  MGF Venus Halista 70, 33" Brown

Miss Milano is one of the most beautiful long haired jennies we  have ever seen. At 11 years old, she still retains the long hair, after a long hot summer, when all the regular miniature donkeys have completely shed out. Many wooly donkeys also get much thinner hair coats by the end of the summer, and then grow lots of hair back quickly in the fall.  One picture shows her with her dredlocks on Sept 25, 2012. The other picture was taken several days later, after a bath and grooming. Underneath all that hair, she has a really nice stocky build, with good bone, straight legs, balance, a wide chest, and good bite. She has a gentle temperament, and halter trained quickly. Miss Milano was exposed to Doc Shivago before we bought her, and had a splendid black and white spotted jennet on April 30.

Mother of the World Record Selling Miniature Donkey Jennet, MGF Ebony and Ivory, an extraordinary wooly spotted jenny. Mother of MGF Doc Shivago 500, exceptional wooly herd sire, and also mother of MGF La Doncella 890, another high selling jennet. Her offspring have great wooly characteristics on a classical, very correct, miniature donkey build. Although she is not particularly wooly herself, La Rimsky-Korsakov makes fabulous music with her foals. Stocky, straight, great build, wonderful calm temperament. Very mannerly, leads everywhere, and quite friendly. She is everything you could want in a quality brood jennet, and an exceptional addition to Elms Farm wooly breeding program.

Picture above shows La Rimsky-Korsakov at age 15, a few days following birth of a foal.

Gorgeous gorgeous wooly jenny! We were happy to add Emerald to our long haired breeding program. She has lovely conformation, gentle, sweet temperament. And topped off with lots of long hair. Emerald had her first foal in 2012, The Elms Harper, a black woolly jack, sired by our 30" red wooly jack, Little Red Hairy. Very nice foal, so Emerald has been bred back the same way for 2013.

This is a divine little jennet. Built just about perfect, with a great temperament. Wooly as well. We bought her at the McRoberts Dispersal Sale, and named her for the sexy Vulcan character,T'Pol, from the TV program, Star Trek Enterprise. Seemed fitting as her mother's name also came from that program. T'Pol, the character, is smart and even tempered, and so is this jennet. She trained up quickly, and comes right up to me in the field, leads well, very gentle. Since she is red based, we plan to breed her to our red wooly jack. Surprise, she arrived pregnant, and gave us a tiny dark red jack foal in July!

Here is a wonderful long haired jennet. We bought her at the recent McRoberts Herd Dispersal Sale. We just love her build, stocky, square, straight and wide. Top that off with a gentle temperament. Within days of being here, she accepts the halter,  lets me pick her hooves, has had a bath, greets me at the gate, leads anywhere. Top that off with her thick woolly hair, we are very happy to have Wooly Bear as a brood jennet in our wooly breeding program. She came in season this week, and has already been bred by the wooly jack we bought at that same sale, MGF LIttle PInk Harry. We are looking forward to a super woolly foal next year!

Helen is a special jennet, very correct, coal black and super sweet. This picture was taken in April, 2011, showing her in her late winter coat. Towards the end of the winter, she gets a reddish cast to the tips of her black hair. When she sheds out in the summer, she is coal black, no visible cross. Helen has unusual ears, the tips go forward, and are a bit floppy. This is due to some injury as a foal, perhaps her mother nipped her ears? You can feel scar tissue on both her ears. Her foals have all had perfectly normal donkey ears. Meanwhile, you can always tell Helen out in the field, by her dark coat, and the ears. Helen's first foal is in our brood jennet herd, The Elms Sparkling Night Sky, also coal black. Her second foal was a black jennet, The Elms La Reine Helene. Third foal was The Elms Bella Helena, a black and white spotted jennet. Fourth foal is The Elms Onyx, a dark brown and white spotted jack, born in 2012.

An elegant jennet with a gorgeous head. What more needs to be said? She is a super correct mini donkey, with rich color. She had her first foal in the spring 2011, The Elms Mr Minibrays, and took to mothering like she was born to it.

Grand Dam:  LN Ajusta-Bo , 32" Dark Brown & White Spotted

The Elms Black Temptress was a high selling jennet at a select sale for a good reason. She has a great stocky build, what everyone looks for in a brood jennet. She is proving herself as a great producer of correct, stocky foals. Her first foal, a jennet called The Elms Sirena, is high quality, very square, short and stocky. We have kept Sirena for our breeding herd. Her second foal, also a jennet, The Elms Pearl Temptation, is a spot that looks like she was cut from the same mold.

Here she is, Black on Black, an intense black miniature donkey jennet. BB, as she is known here, is a doll of a jennet, sweet but not demanding. She has big, fuzzy ears, same as her dam, Penny. Stocky, compact, and well muscled, she has turned into a very lovely jennet. BB foaled a black jack with no light points on May 9th, 2009. Visit our 'newborn page' for more photos of Black Eagle.

Update! BB foaled a dark spotted jennet August 21, 2010. Both her 2009 and 2010 foals were sired by Geronimo.

Dottie is the product of champion breeding and is the 2006 and 2007 Reserve ACOSA National Champion and Color Class winner in Shelbyville, TN. Dottie is trained for show and a standout everywhere she goes. Her sire and dam were both first in their class and both 2001 Reserve ACOSA National Champions. Here is a Champion with the hard to get tyger spotting pattern. Dottie will be 3 in August.

Update! Dottie once again is the Color Class winner at the 2008 Great Celebration Mule & Donkey Show July 10-12, 2008, against stiff competiton. She also won the three and over ACOSA Jennet Class.

We were thrilled to buy Dots at the Great American Miniature Donkey Sale. She is so beautiful. We have bred her to Mojave for a 2009 and we think that should be an exciting foal!

Dots had a dark brown and white spotted jennet in 2010, the Elms Dottie's Valentine.

Apple Blossom, a fitting name for this beautiful, stocky, frosted sorrel with fantastic long, woolly hair. Her mother is also stocky and wooly. All that white hair makes her stand out in the field! This serene, white jennet is genetically spotted, with the ability to produce any type of spotted pattern, or a solid colored foal. Imagine what she can produce with the long hair genetics mixed in there as well! Her first foal, by Rembrandt, is a gorgeous red jennet, The Elms Rose Blossom, born in 2007.

Her first foal, The Elms Rhapsody in Red, sired by Santana, is as dark red as her mother with the same outgoing personality. Melody has been bred back to Santana for 2009.

This is a beautiful, correct, dark red sorrel jennet. She has a gorgeous head, leg garters, flashy facial roaning, and a curly winter coat. She has given us quality foals in rich sorrel. She is the mother of a former herd sire, The Elms Eric the Red, and of a number of dark sorrel jennets, one as striking as the next.. Most of her offspring has been dark red jennets, one as beautiful as the next: The Elms Synnamon's Star, The Elms Scarlett O'Eara, and The Elms Scarlett Dream. Synnamon has had two jennets sired by Black Knight: The Elms Synnamon's Spice is a beautiful black cherry jennet, and The Elms Spiced Wine, a rich black/brown.
